Das Fianchetto (Aussprache: [fian'kɛtːo] – von italienisch il fianco = die Flanke; fälschlich auch Aussprache: [fianʃɛto]) ist ein Begriff aus dem Schachspiel. Man bezeichnet damit die Aufstellung eines Läufers an der Flanke der eigenen Figurenaufstellung, auf einer der beiden Hauptdiagonalen des Brettes, in einer eigens dafür zu schaffenden „Höhle“ innerhalb der eigenen Bauernstruktur.

Von dieser Position aus wirkt der Läufer auf das Zentrum und über das Zentrum hinweg auf den diagonal gegenüber liegenden gegnerischen Flügel ein. Diese Aufstellung des Läufers ist sehr wirksam und deshalb in zahlreichen Eröffnungssystemen im Schach sehr beliebt. Ein Fianchetto-Zug ist also in der Regel ein Eröffnungszug wie das Königsfianchetto, er wird aber auch später im Mittelspiel gezogen.

Man spricht in der Umgangssprache auch davon, einen Läufer zu „fianchettieren“. Werden beide Läufer auf diese Weise entwickelt, spricht man von einem „Doppelfianchetto“, auch – salopper – „Doppelloch“ genannt. In der Hippopotamus-Eröffnung wird charakteristisch ein Doppelfianchetto gespielt und eine Doppelfianchettoeröffnung wird auch als Anti-Computer-Taktik verwendet.
