Uri Rubin (2007)

Uri Rubin (geb. 1944 in Kirjat Ono, Israel) ist ein israelischer Islamwissenschaftler und Hochschullehrer.

Leben und Wirken

Uri Rubin wurde 1944 in Kirjat Ono, Israel, geboren. Er ist Professor emeritus an der Abteilung für Arabistik und Islamwissenschaft der Universität Tel Aviv. Er forscht über den frühen Islam (mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf dem Koran), zur Koranexegese (tafsīr) und der frühislamischen Tradition (sīra und ḥadīṯ). Ziel seiner Forschungen ist die Darstellung der Weltanschauung der ersten Muslime im Vergleich zur vorislamischen Vergangenheit Dschāhilīya, unter Berücksichtigung des Korans sowie der außerkoranischen religiösen und historiographischen Literatur. Zudem forscht er über den Status Jerusalems (einschließlich des Felsendoms) in der Anfangszeit des Islams, im Vergleich zu Mekka und der Kaaba. Er hat verschiedene Werke aus dem Arabischen ins Hebräische übersetzt. Er ist Autor und Herausgeber verschiedener Werke und trug auch zur Encyclopaedia of Islam und andere fachwissenschaftliche Werke Artikel bei. Er ist auch Autor einer mit Anmerkungen versehenen Übersetzung des Korans ins Hebräische und war als assistant editor mit in der Redaktionsleitung der Encyclopaedia of the Qurʾān.
